How do I fill out the occupational if she worked half then year then retired?

Enter the "occupation" as of 12/31/16, Retired. 

Note:  If you have more than one occupation, enter your main occupation. (The one you spend most of your time doing.)

The IRS requires we ask about your occupation. 

An occupation is what you do for work, but if you’re retired, a student or a stay-at-home parent, that can be your occupation as well.
