How do I file form 5329 from my retirement provider to correct their error in Box 7?

Alerus indicated early withdrawal by coding the box as 1 instead of 12.

If you were under age 59½ at the time of the distribution, code 1 is correct.

If you were not under age 59½ at the time of the distribution, code 12 is the code for line 2 of Form 5329 to indicate that you were over age 59½ despite the code 1 in box 7 of the Form 1099-R.  You handle this in TurboTax by entering the amount in the exception box labeled Incorrect Early Distributions.
