In the HSA interview, there is a screen titled "Let's enter [name]'s HSA contributions". This comes after the screens in which you enter a 1099-SA, which, as you say, are for distributions, not contributions.
This screen has two lines - the first line is the amount of contributions made by means of payroll deduction. This amount comes from your W-2, box 12 with a code of W.
The second line is for your "personal" contributions, i.e., contributions not made through your employer.
The second line is the sum of ALL the contributions made directly to the HSA from January 1, 2025 through April 15, 2026. So you add your "PYC" here. This is a case wherein you make a contribution in one year, but report it in the previous year.
How do you do this for the desktop version? It doesn't seem to let me edit what's pre-filled
"The second line is for your "personal" contributions, i.e., contributions not made through your employer."
Enter your prior year contribution on the second line...
Don't tell me that this contribution is through your employer (that would be odd but I guess not impossible).
OK, in case it was an employer contribution, do the following:
1. Go back to the start of the HSA interview.
2. When you get to the screen titled "Do any of these situations apply to [your name]?", check the line "[Name] had other company contributions that weren't reported on their W-2 or apply to a previous year".
3. Hit Continue.
4. On the next screen, enter the contribution amount on the second line, "Contributions made in 2026 for tax year 2025".
5. Continue with the HSA interview.
