I will suggest you contact the Treasury Offset Program at 800-304-3107 to find out if your refund was reduced because of an offset.  Or you can contact your local Social Security Administration office.

Here are the possible reasons when the offset is taken:

  • Past due child support;
  • Debts owed to a federal agency;
  • Unemployment debts owed to the state;
  • Past due federal student loans;
  • Unpaid state income tax.

For more information, see RefundOffset

I'm having the same issue.. I called the top number and they said I owed 960 to the social security administration but I have never even applied or gotten SSI or anything. Did you ever find out any info?

If you called the offset number and they told you the debt was from Social Security, you will need to contact Social Security to find out why.
