What kind of 1099? There are over a dozen kinds, 1099Int, 1099Div, 1099R, 1099G, 1099Misc, etc. For what? All the state entries get first entered on the federal side to flow to state. Even if they are not used on state.
To ensure that all income items such as 1099's are reported correctly, all Forms 1099 you received reporting items of income should be entered in the Federal section of TurboTax. Once you have completed all entry sections of the Federal return, TurboTax will prompt you to begin any State returns.
The State return programs are set up to ask you questions about any items of income or deductions that are different for your State than they are for the Federal return. and allow you to provide the information needed to make the State changes.
If you are using TurboTax Online, you have the option to Clear and Start Over if you need to start again to make sure the income and deduction information is entered in the Federal section first before being modified in the State section.
See this TurboTax help article for more information about troubleshooting federal-to-state transfer issues.
