Your mom will qualify as a parent for the Arizona $10,000 exemption if she meets the following:
Your mom is a parent or ancestor of a parent that lived in a principal residence for the entire taxable year.
You paid more than one-half of the support and maintenance costs of your mom.
Your mom was 65 years or older during the taxable year.
Your mom requires assistance with activities of daily living, like getting in and out of bed or chairs, walking around, going outdoors, using the toilet, bathing, shaving, brushing teeth, combing hair, dressing, medicating or feeding.
An Arizona resident can claim an exemption for a parent who is not claimed for any other exemption or dependent credit.
When you enter your information into TurboTax, your Federal information regarding dependents will flow to your Arizona return.
When completing your Arizona return, you will see a screen that says "Describe your Federal Dependent". Make sure you have selected "A qualifying parent for the AZ $10,000 exemption". (See the screenshot below for additional guidance)
To see this on your Arizona tax return, your dependent would be entered on line 11 of your Arizona Form 140. The credit will be seen on line 41 of your Arizona return.
This is shown below:
