Does my 89 year old mother, who's income is SS, deceased husband's pension and a small interest from savings account need to file 2019/2020 taxes? Covid last year, nofile

In the past, AARP came to Senior Living but Covid last year made them cancel appts.  She usually gets a small refund.  I want to do her 2020 taxes, but I think I must do 2019 first?? Suggestions?

If her income is over $14,050, she most likely needs to file a tax return.  Because you said she got a refund in the past, it may be a good idea to see if she can again, and if she did not get her stimulus payments you can claim them on the 2020 return.  You do not have to file the 2019 before the 2020.

Why is she getting a refund ?

the only way she can get a refund it from tax withheld on Social Security

If the refund is small, it must be a big pension.

She has to file.
