Do I need to file form 8606 now, if I made a "Removal of Excess Contribution" for 2019 from a Roth IRA after already filing my 2019 return?

Awkward situation that I already submitted my 2019 return through TurboTax but realized that I am over the income limit. Went ahead and make a 'removal of excess contribution' and trying to understand if I need to amend my 2019 return, and/or submit form 8606. Can I do this through TurboTax?

Response from Fidelity "Fidelity will issue a 1099-R that will show the amount that is removed from the IRA as a "Removal of Excess Contribution" in early January 2021. You must however file form 8606 with the IRS for the 2019 tax year, during this tax season. "

Yes, you can do this with TurboTax.  Simply open your TurboTax program or log back into your account and choose the option I need to amend a return that has already been filed and accepted.

Form 8606 has nothing to do with the return of a Roth IRA contribution.  You might need to file an amended Form 5329 and Form 1040-X, however, depending on whether or not you previously reported the excess contribution and paid a penalty, and if the return of contribution from the Roth IRA included gains attributable to the amount returned.
