Do I have to file taxes - I am a single dependent- quit my job in 2015 but received $888 in retirement plan distribution checks (after taxes) which was the only income

I am a 20 year old full time student living at home (claimed as a dependent by my mother). After quitting my job in 2015- I received 2 checks totaling $888 from my company in January and February 2016 for distribution of my 401k and GSA retirement plan. I did not work in 2016 so this was my only 'income'. I'm not sure if I need to file taxes on this. The gross amount totaled $1,111. Thank you.

Yes. Since you have unearned income that is greater than $1050, you will be required to file. Please refer to the following Turbo Tax FAQs to learn more. https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302185
