control number on my W-2 exactly won't go through, this is the error I can't bypass. Make sure this info exactly matches what's in box D, including spaces. What 2 do?

Delete the number in the Control Number box.  It is not needed to e-file your tax return.

Delete whatever is in box D and leave it blank - you don't need it.   If you are trying to import, exit out of the import and type it in manually.   The control number is not required to enter the w2.   

If you get errors when attempting to e-file with an empty box D, just enter any number in this format: 5 digits, space, 5 digits (for example, 12345 67890). The IRS doesn't care what's in box D.
