The IRS considers Old Age Pension as an equivalent of US social security income. Therefore OAS will be entered in the same location in TurboTax as US Social Security income. See page 2 of IRS Notice 98-23. If there is US social security income as well, combine your US social security and the Old Age Pension into a single figure.

Using TurboTax you would enter the amount received from a Canadian Social Security benefits in the same section as US Social Security benefit.

  • Click on Federal Taxes
  • Click on Wages and Income
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on
  • Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  • On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button.

See the following from IRS Publication 915:

Canadian or German social security benefits paid to U.S. residents.    Under income tax treaties with Canada and Germany, social security benefits paid by those countries to U.S. residents are treated for U.S. income tax purposes as if they were paid under the social security legislation of the United States. If you receive social security benefits from Canada or Germany, include them on line 1 of  Worksheet 1 , shown later.
