Can someone pls help? Last year my mom helped my granddad do his taxes and his return said he was suppose to get back over 20,000 dollars witch does not seem rite

No one has access to the tax return your mother prepared for your grandfather.  Only your mom would know the account and user ID that she used to prepare the return.   Did she print out a copy so that you can look at it?  She could still do that and you might see something that seems wrong.  Does she still have the tax documents that were used, like any W-2's, 1099's, etc. etc.?  Twenty thousand dollars is a large refund.  And how do you know "they" want more information?   Did the IRS send a letter asking for more information?   What does the letter say?
