You need to file a nonresident return.  The 1042S should be reported on Form 1040NR.

TurboTax does not support nonresident returns.  TurboTax is only for full year resident returns.

However we have a partnership with Sprintax offering a nonresident tax filing solution to our TurboTax customers.

Visit the TurboTax/Sprintax site for more info or to get started.

Hi.  Were you a full year resident of the US in 2018?  What visa did you have?

I only stayed upto end-May 2018, retired then went back to the Philippines in June 2018.  I had an L1 visa

Can I use form 1042S instead of 1099R to report a lump sum distribution of my pension in tax year 2018? How does turbo tax input this in my 1040 return?

Note:  Basis for my query.  I got my lumpsum pension Sept/Nov 2018.  BNY Mellon (withholding agent) said they'll mail a filled up 1042 S instead of a 1900 R form because I am no longer a resident tax payer.  Turbotax directs me, however, to fill up a 1099 R, which I'll never get.  So I can't move on my tax return.

Sorry for the typo ... "instead of a 1099 R form"
