Unless you are receiving the Earned Income Credit there is no reason for having that box checked.
Unless you are receiving the Earned Income Credit there is no reason for having that box checked.
Here's the help response from Turbo Tax online...
"Not checking this box does not affect your ability to file but may impact certain residency-related qualifications or deductions."
It doesn't mention EIC and I see others have spent time chasing this down. It seems it really should be checked, unless there's a reason from the "interview" to uncheck it.
I went to the trouble to reenter my address information, even though we've lived in the same house for 30+ years, and have used TT for a significant number of those years.
I went ahead and submitted my taxes and it was accepted. I trust TurboTax to check the box if it was needed. read other responses and they said the same thing as this post that it only refers to earned income credit. The box should be labeled better by the IRS
Yes, I went ahead as well. In another thread on this same issue a poster had commented that he had done this for a relative (submitted without the box checked) and the relative did get the refund due to them; i.e. the tax form was accepted and processed.
It's just unnerving to see this - somewhat front and center on page 1. It caused me a couple hours of searching here to get a better understanding. And it seems others have gone through the same.
Thanks for your post.
My return was rejected because box was not checked. I went back through the information on TT and nowhere does it ask me that question. How do I get it to check that box?
If your return was rejected, it is likely not because that box was not checked. Would you be able to give us more information about the reason for the rejection, such as an error code or the description of the error?
As an example, a Reject code of F8962-010 means that the IRS has information that the taxpayer, spouse, or dependent has marketplace insurance and/or has received an advance Premium Tax Credit for marketplace insurance.
Letting us know the reject code will allow us to better assist you in getting the rejection fixed.
