Because I am on disability I won't receive a 1099 form so what do I do when I'm asked to enter this on my tax questions?

When I contacted social security I was told I won't get a 1099

Do you know the amount of income you received via check? You can enter it using those figures.

You may not need to file a return at all. The filing requirements are below.

  • Single filing status:
    • $12,550 if under age 65
    • $14,250 if age 65 or older
  • Married filing jointly:
    • $25,100 if both spouses under age 65
    • $26,450 if one spouse under age 65 and one age 65 or older
    • $27,800 if both spouses age 65 or older
  • Married filing separately — $5 for all ages
  • Head of household:
    • $18,800 if under age 65
    • $20,500 if age 65 or older
  • Qualifying widow(er) with dependent child:
    • $25,100 if under age 65
    • $26,450 if age 65 or older

  • A Social Security 1099 or 1042S Benefit Statement, also called an SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, is a tax form that shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Here is how to enter your social security information.

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. In the Federal section, select Wages & Income.
  3. Scroll to locate Retirement Plans and Social Security.
  4. Select Start or Revisit next to Social Security ( SSA 1099, RRB 1099)
