As I entered my charities my tax bill did not go down as it did in past years. I itemize. How do I check that I got my tax benefits from over $10,000 of giving?

If you go into Forms mode and look at your Schedule A, you will be able to see what is being included in your deductions under the Gifts to Charity section.

For further clarification, you can right click on each of the lines and click on Data Source to view the calculations behind them. This will also help you to narrow down which are to review in step-by-step mode should you notice a discrepancy in your entries.

If you are unable to find your Schedule A, it could mean that TurboTax has assessed that the Standard Deduction would bring you a higher tax benefit. Your deduction is listed on your Form 1040, Line 8. (2018) (2019 Line 9)

You can still pull up your Schedule A even if you are receiving the Standard Deduction by clicking on Open Form within Forms mode and typing schedule a into the search bar.

Do you have other itemized deductions to add to your charity? The standard deduction for a single person is $12,000 for 2018.

(2019 is $12,200)
