I have some substantial out-of-pocket medical expenses this year and may be close to or exceeding the federal threshold for actually being able to claim medical expenses on my 2024 Form1040 Schedule A.
I need to know if I can claim my insurance premiums which are deducted from my retired pay. Obviously if they are pre-tax, I wouldn't be able to claim them. If they are not pre-tax, I would be able to.
Are BC/BS Insurance premiums deducted from my Federal OPM retired pay annuity pre-tax or post-tax?
Are Tricare government insurance premiums deducted from military retired pay pre-tax or post-tax?
Are FEDVIP Dental or Vision insurance premiums deducted from military retired pay pre-tax or post-tax?
Thanks in advance!

It depends. What is common - post tax- does not mean that is what is happening in your situation. You need to contact OPM and discuss your particular situation.
See OPM Retirement Center and Insure FAQ - Will my deduction continue to be pre-tax after I retire?
