Yes there are many different 1099 forms. It should say like 1099NEC or 1099Misc or 1099R or 1099G etc. What did you get it for?
It was from a lawsuit. The 1009misc has similar boxes to a W-2. Wages, Federal and State taxes withheld. All the 1099's I am shown on Turbo Tax only show the interest/dividends. I was thinking of just filling out a W-2, since it has the same info. They sure have messed up Turbo Tax. I've been doing my own taxes since 1971. Long before Turbo Tax. It was the same for many years and easy to maneuver when you're familiar with the format, but now it's crazy. I really appreciate the help. This is the only part that is holding me up from completing my taxes this year.
It's best to enter the 1099-MISC as it is. Include the federal and state withholding by selecting my form has more boxes to include the state income and withholding. Then follow the instructions below so that you do not indicate it is from self employment.
It's important that you made the appropriate selections so that TurboTax does know that it was not self employment income.
This will report the income without any business/self employment activity and it will show up on Form 1040, Line 8 (From Schedule 1, Line 8z).
No deductions will be allowed for any legal fees.
