Are contributions to a thrift savings plan the same as an IRA? can i put that on my taxes?

Is it from work?  Does it come out of your paychecks?  No.  A TSP is not a IRA.  It comes out of your pay pre-tax and has already been deducted from your W2 wages box 1.
