To clarify, is your gross income $200,000 or less? If so, there's no reason why you can't claim it. There's an entry you need to make in your New Jersey state return.
For the New Jersey Tax return there is NO screen that mentions New Jersey College Affordability Deductions.
Can you please raise a ticket to have this added to the NJ tax return section.
If you are using TurboTax Online and you have gone through the NJ return until you reach the screen titled, You've Finished Your New Jersey Return, you can click Update beside the Adjustments category to go through that section again. The screen titled New Jersey College Affordability Deductions will be found going through all possible adjustments.
If you are not using TurboTax Online, please share which version of the desktop program you are using.
I am using TurboTax Online, went through all of the sections in Adjustments for my NJ state filing, and there is no screen titled New Jersey College Affordability Deductions. Please advise.
Craig
It appears as you go through the New Jersey state interview. The screen will appear after a screen that allows you to enter medical expenses.
I stepped through the Adjustments section again:
Any Medical Expenses?
then next...
Qualified Conservation Contribution
Nothing for
New Jersey College Affordability Deductions
Please help!!
You might want to consider deleting the New Jersey return in TurboTax and starting over. To do that, follow these steps:
You will then proceed through with working on your New Jersey return again.
As you step through the screens of New Jersey a screen titled "New Jersey College Affordability Deduction" will be followed right after "Any Medical Expenses?".
Since the Affordability Deduction screen in TurboTax will not appear if your gross income is above $200,000, just check to be sure that it is not. You can check the total income by clicking on Federal Review, going through the review and fixing any errors and click until you get to a screen talking about your refund/balance due. This will have a summary of your total income.
Did exactly that and there is still no screen titled New Jersey College Affordability Deductions
Can you please verify this is working for NJ state returns??
Found the problem. Over the 200k limit by a few dollars. Apologies and thank you!!
