This is for retirement pension. Is there supposed to be a distribution code in box 7?

Look carefully on the Form 1099-R for box 7.  Is there the number 7 in or near the box?

If there is no number in box 7 then you need to contact the plan administrator to get a corrected Form 1099-R as a code in box 7 is required.

Given that this form is reporting distributions from a pension, a code 7 is almost certainly present in box 7.
