In 2025 the Form 1040 added information in Line 5.
My retirement plan does an After-Tax In-Plan ROTH Conversions and I get a 1099-R with this conversion.
I entered the information from my 1099-R and it maps corectly to Line 5a.
But, should Line 5c box 1 be checked for ROLLOVER?
If yes, how do you make this happen?

It appears that if the amount in box 5 [of the Form 1099-R] equals the amount in box 1, TurboTax fails to properly mark box 1 Rollover on line 5c. The IRS instructions for lines 5a and 5b are pretty clear that box 1 Rollover should be marked for this transaction, but this bug has been present for at least several years, so TurboTax's failure to mark this box shouldn't really be a problem.
As an alternative, reducing the amount in box 5 by $1 seems to allow TurboTax to mark box 5c Rollover and still produces the correct taxable amount of $0 on line 5b. Doing this should be transparent to the IRS since the form is not included in your e-filing because there is no tax withholding present in box 4.
Hello, I think there's a chance you are referring to something different because Form 1040 is included in the filling and Form 1040 in 2025 has new boxes that did not exist in previous years. You mention box 5, not sure what that is.
Here's an example of what TurboTax is producing in the preview of
Form 1040
Income
5a Pensions and annuities . . . . [ 5a [ 1,000. ] b Taxable amount . . . . . . [5b [ 0.]
c Check if (see instructions) . . . 1 [_] Rollover 2 [_] PSO 3 [_] _______
The box 1 Rollover in Line 5c is what I believe should be checked. If I understand correctly, you confirm that an In-Plan ROTH Conversion should have Rollover checked, right?
Could you please clarify your directions - Are you saying that instead of 1000 I should enter 999 ?
Is there a way to manually change Form 1040 to check the box?
Thanks
Where I mentioned box 5, I was referring to box 5 of the Form 1099-R.
Manually changing things on forms requires using overrides. Overrides block you from e-filing.
Hello, the content in my 1099-R already was different, but by cents only, so it didn't trigger checking the rollover box
You are right, if I make the difference between box 1 and box 5 in the information from 1099-R it checks the box in Form 1040 line 5c box 1 Rollover.
Thank you
