1099R for 401k rollover, entered the taxable amount in box 2a but in the income summary TT shows full amt as non-taxable. How do I fix this?

Majority went to a traditional IRA but a portion went to a Roth. 401k provider generated a single 1099 because both were direct rollovers to same institution. TT even asks me to confirm that only a portion is taxable, but then does not pick it up on income summary.

Instead of reviewing the "Income Summary" page of the program, review your Form 1040.  To review your Form 1040, while logged in and in your return:

  • On the far left of your screen, click on Tax Tools
  • From the Drop Down menu, click on Tools
  • Click on View Tax Summary on the pop up window
  • On the far left, click on Preview my 1040

To report that some went to a traditional IRA and some went to a Roth IRA, to accommodate TurboTax you must split the Form 1099-R into two, one for the portion that went to the traditional IRA and the other for the portion that went to the Roth IRA.  the dollar boxes on these two forms must sum to the amounts in the corresponding boxes on the original form.
