1099-R - Code H (Roth IRA to Roth IRA) amount is not showing in 4a in Form 1040

Hi all,

I have 2 1099-Rs. 1st one has code G(direct rollover from a qualified retirement plan to another qualified plan). lets say aount $6,000. 2nd one has code H(direct rollover from a Roth IRA to another Roth IRA). lets say amount in box 1 is $4,000.

Both have Total distribution box checked and non taxable,no other boxes are checked. Simple rolloevers from my old company to new company.

When I advance step by step in the process, first i noticed that under the "here is how your retirement and IRA distributions affect your income" page, Turbotax combines both amounts in "Pensions and annuity distribuions" line with amount $10,000, and Zero amount in "Traditional and Roth IRA disctributions" line.

And when i finally get to ready to file stage, and see the preview of 1040 I see that "Box 4A" has zero amount and "Box 5A" has both amounts combined $10,000 with rollover box checked.

I was expecting the following >  4a would show $4,000 (H=Roth to Roth) , and 5a would show $6,000 (G=401k to 401k), and both rollover boxes checked.

Could you please provide your opinion if this is a bug or correct tax designation?

Best

Tansu

1099-R - Code H (Roth IRA to Roth IRA) amount is not showing in 4a in Form 1040

Your Form 1040 is correct in this respect.  Both gross amounts are to be included on line 5a, not line 4a.  Line 4a is only for distributions from an IRA.  Your employer plan from which these distributions were made is not an IRA.
