To add a 1099-R and the SSA-1099, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the left at Wages & Income
  2. For the 1099-R, click on IRA, 401(k), etc. and click on show more or Edit/Add, whichever shows.
  3. Answer the questions and enter the data for the 1099R and click continue or done and you will return to the Wages & Income screen.
  4. Once the 1099-R data is entered and the questions are answered, scroll down to Social Security and click on show more or Edit/Add, whichever shows.
  5. Answer the questions and enter the data for the SSA-1099 and click continue or done and you will return to the Wages & Income screen.
  6. Continue with your return until complete.

my partner received SS benefits this year under her ex husband's account and switched this year to her own Social Security.  So she received 2 SSA 1099 forms.  I entered one, but can't figure how to add the second.  How do I add a second SSA 1099 on a single return?

You will enter only one SSA-1099 for your partner. Add up the amounts for each box and enter them together.

  1. Log into TurboTax and click on any topic to continue.
  2. Click on Federal from the menu on the left-hand side and then click on Wages & Income at the top.
  3. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security, click "Show More" and then click on "Start" to the right of Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099.)
  4. Enter the amounts from your form(s) where indicated. If you received multiple SSA-1099s, add up the amounts for each box and enter them together.
