Question

What happened to the Virginia State military retirement subtraction. It is supposed to be $30,000 for 2024?

    As you go through your Virginia tax return, look for the screen titled, Here's the income that Virginia handles differently.  On that screen you will see a category for Military.  Click Start beside the option for Military Benefits Subtraction to exclude your military retirement income.

    I've just learned about the military subtraction for retirement pay. After reviewing my 2024 tax return, I found that the subtraction was not included.  Do I amend my 2024 tax return?  If so, how, or do I include the 2024 subtraction with the 2025 subtraction when submitting the 2025 tax return?
