need help answering TurboTax follow-up questions when entering 1099-R with box 7 JP code
hi TurboTax community...
I'm amending my 2024 tax return because I was not eligible to make 2024 ROTH IRA contributions.
Long story short is i was no eligible to make ROTH IRA contributions in 2024 and reversed my 2024 contributions on 14 October 2025.
I've entered the 1099-Rs into my 2024 tax return but am not sure how to answer the follow-up questions.
Under the FEDERAL TAXES/Wages & Income tab and after the screen that says:
Let's see if we can reduce your early withdrawal penalty
The next screen says:
These situations may lower your tax bill
Enter the amount of IRA distributions I used to pay for the following:
Medical expenses
Permanent disability
...
<so on and so forth>
...
Question #1 - do I enter any numbers into any of the list of boxes?
I was told I need to enter an amount into the:
Corrective distributions made before the due date of the return box?
If yes, what amount do I enter?
Do I enter the amount shown in box 1 of my 1099-R with J-P code in box 7?
I checked the ROTH IRA box under my name under FEDERAL TAXES/Deductions & Credits/Retirement and Investments/Traditional and ROTH IRA Contributions?
TurboTax starts to ask me a bunch of questions I am unsure how to answer.
Question #2 - Is my answer 'no' to the question, Is this a Repayment of a Retirement Distribution?
Question #3 - TurboTax asks for the total ROTH IRA contributions for 2024. Do I enter the amount I originally contributed ($6210), even though that amount (plus earnings) were backed out/reversed 14 October 2025?
TurboTax then asks the following question:
Switch from a ROTH to a Traditional IRA? Tell us if I switched or "recharacterized" any of my ROTH IRA contributions for 2024 over to a traditional IRA.
My situation is part of the 2024 ROTH IRA contributions I reversed on 14 October 2025 were put into a Traditional IRA on 23 December 2025. The remaining amount of my 2024 ROTH IRA contributions is still sitting in my bank checking account.
Question #4 - Do I click 'yes' to the question 'Switch from a ROTH to a Traditional IRA?
Please let me know how to answer the questions above.
Thanks!
