Question

My wife and I live in Germany. And although we file a U.S. income tax return, based on the U.S.-German tax agreement, our U.S. S.S. benefits are taxable here.

We are therefore required to pay income tax on S.S. benefits here in Germany where we are full time residents.  Does Turbo Tax provide the option of using IRS Form 8833 to notify the IRS of this fact when we file our U.S. income tax return?

No, TurboTax does not support Form 8833. You will need to manually download this form and mail it with your tax return.

Please see IRS Form 8833 Treaty-Based Return Position Disclosure Under Section 6114 or 7701(b).

Please see How do I print and mail my return in TurboTax Online? for additional information.

Thanks for your reply.  I kind of guessed that Turbo Tax doesn't provide Form 8833.  It also does not contain guidance or online input options and processing of SSA Form 1042s (in lieu of 1099R), which my wife is required to report as a recipient of social security spousal benefits.  I appreciate your help.
