Question

My IRA RMD was downloaded my IRA accounts by Turbo Tax but was incorrectly overstated. I didn't catch it until after filed. Caused me $541 extra Fed tax.

I can prove it with PDF tax statements from IRA accounts. TurboTax should fix this, not me.

With anything you import to your return, you should always review it for accuracy.

If you filed saying that you missed part of your RMD and you paid a penalty, you can amend your return to correct the error and claim a refund.

Customer service might or might not help you file the amended return.  The official view point is that Turbotax is software used to help you prepare your own return, and you are responsible for reviewing it for accuracy.

The accuracy guarantee referenced by the expert will pay your interest and penalties if you owe interest or penalties due to a program mistake, but that would not come into effect if you overpaid your taxes and will get a refund by amending.
