Question

My 2022 income is showing income from a 1099-B but I didn't have a 1099-B this year. Where is Turbo Tax pulling this number?

Turbo Tax is calculating that I need to pay additional tax this year and this erroneous 1099-B is part of that.  How do I correct this?

Delete the Form 1099-B

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen

Click on Tools

Click on Delete a form

This is the kicker - in that Forms list there is no 1099-B shown!

Then you will need to go through the Investment Income section to see where the amount is being generated.

When asked if you have an investment sale, for this issue answer Yes to see if you can get to a screen to delete any entries.

To enter an investment sale from a brokerage account (1099-B), follow the steps below.

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Under Investment Income
  • On Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B), click the start or update button

Or enter investment sales in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to investment sales
