Question

I had two job this year and I am over my Social Security limit. It will only refund my extra if I set one of the EINs to blank on the W-2. TurboTax tech support?

This must be a bug, but I cannot figure out how to report this to TurboTax support.  I stumbled on this "fix" and it's been really challenging to figure this out.  I have not purchased the software yet (but have for the last few years) until I know this will work.  Or will purchasing this fix this issue - but it would still be a bug....

You are posting on a thread that is over one year old.  So we have no idea what your question is unless you actually ask a question.

@rdougcrowe

With the Desktop/download software-Premier (not "Online" prep)   As long as the EINs for the two W-2 forms are different, I don't see an error there.

IF the EINs are the same, because the W-2 forms were for different companies, but the two companies used the same payroll agent??   That can be fixed with a workaround by switching to using the desktop software...BUT...I don't know if the workaround allows the file to be e-filed  (I think it will because it doesn't appear to be an actual "override"...but I'm not sure.)

SO, if you are sure the Federal EIN for each is different and entered as different numbers, AND no credit is given on line 31 of the form 1040 , then that would be software error (...and it should actually first show up on line 11 of Schedule 3, since other things may add into line 31 of the form 1040) and TTX Customer Support should be contacted.   (Don't know if they are working weekends though yet...the contact page does not indicate that they are yet.)

If you had 2 jobs from 2 different employers then you must get a W-2 form from each of them and they will have different EIN's  so there will be no problem.  Did you actually get both forms yet ?   The employer does have until 1/31 to get them in the mail to you  so wait for the forms before making any overrides anywhere.

I have both of the EIN (besides, could make them up - just need to be different). and am "estimating" the taxes base on my last paychecks for the year.  Regardless, the software should add the refunds of Social Security to the return.  Its not working correctly, which is a bug.  Just checked to see if it was fixed/patched - but nope.
