I did not claim my 401k last year can i claim it this year with my 401k or do i have to ammend?

You can't claim a 401K for a different year than what it was paid in.
If you are an employee, the 401K is entered what you enter the W-2.
If you did not take a retirement credit for 2017, then you can amend the 2017 return to claim that credit.
