I am a widow on social security and they are saying I owe over 2,000 in taxes. They say this was resolved 10-14-18 but just received the form last week. Aren't things like this supposed to be mailed by the end of January? I tried calling them but they told me there is no phone number for this department only a fax number and I don't have a fax machine.
If the date on the 1099-C is 2018 then you must include it in the 2018 tax return. If it is 2019, then you can wait a year. Some companies do not follow the exact rules for mailing tax information. I just received two forms for my taxes.
