How do I know if money I inherited was a RMD? The financial institution is not answering.

Yes, it is best to indicate that this distribution is part of the RMD. 

Since you really don't know if the Required Minimum Distribution was taken or not, indicating that this distribution counts towards that requirement can only be a benefit if needed and does no harm if it isn't needed.
