Question

Can't enter Social Security Income Form SSA-1099

I'm using Turbo Tax Deluxe (Desktop).  When I go to enter my Social Security Income (Form SSA-1099) for both me and my wife, it asks me if we lived abroad and I answered No for both me and my wife.  When I continue, I get a Canadian Retirement Summary screen.  I live in the United States.  When I enter "Continue", it takes me back to the Income Summary screen.   I noticed some people had this problem last year.  I've rebooted my computer.  I've signed into Turbo Tax as administrator.  I'm running Windows 11 and it is up to date and Turbo Tax is up to date.  Can anyone help me?

This could be happening if you chose to 'visit all' in the Retirement Income section of TurboTax.

The question about being a US citizen living abroad is a standard question related to Social Security income.

If you get the question about the Canadian pension, click the Back button instead of Continue.  Then, if you see a seemingly blank entry for Canadian pension data, click the trash can icon beside it to delete it.  Otherwise, click any other section of TurboTax to navigate away from the Retirement Income section so that an unneeded Canadian pension worksheet will not be created.

I deleted the blank Canadian screen and when I entered "Continue", I get goes back to the Income Summary screen.  When I go back into it, I get the question about living abroad and both of the answers for me and my wife are No.  When I continue, I get a different Canadian pension information screen and it asks for the "Custodian name".  There is no option to delete this.  If I continue, it just goes back to the Income Summary screen.

If you are stuck on the screen asking for the custodian name, click Back.  Then delete the blank Canadian pension worksheet and click Back again to get out of this section to continue your return.

    This worked for me:

    1) Switch to Forms Mode

    2) Select the SS Benefits worksheet in the left window

    3) Delete it in the right window (bottom of the window)

    4) Return to interview mode and start thru the SSA-1099 entry area again.

    Good luck!

Thank you so much.  This worked for me.

I think Turbo Tax still has a bug that may only happen for people that download from Quicken or other software.

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

To give credit where it's due, I got the instructions from user @SteamTrain  in another thread. Thanks for that!
