Question

Can I tell turbotax that I don't have an employer sponsored plan so I can deduct my IRA contribution? It is not allowing a deduction but we are entitled to one

Turbotax is telling us our income is too high to deduct an IRA contribution, but we had no employer sponsored plan and there should not be an income limit. Can anyone help us figure this out?

If you have no employer-sponsored retirement plan, there is no income limit to contribute to a Traditional IRA

  • Do you or your spouse have a W-2?
  • On the W-2 Box 13 is the checkbox "Retirement plan" checked?
  • Is it checked in the TurboTax W-2 imput screen?
