After entering the data from my 1099R it asks what I did with the money from the Office of personnel management. The choices are confusing.

Asked what I did with the money from Office of Personnel Management? The 2 choices offered make no sense to me.

    TurboTax basically wants to know if you rolled the money over to another retirement plan or if you put it in your own checking or savings account (or just spent it)..

    Most taxpayers spend the money they receive on a 1099-R to live on, so in this case, you would check the second line ("[your name] did something else with it (cashed out, etc.).")

    You would check the first box ONLY of you put the money into a retirement account (the same one or a different one).
