Thank you for keeping us safe!

To correct the issue with an APO address you should go to:

  1. PERSONAL INFO
  2. I'll choose what I work on
  3. Scroll down to your address and [EDIT]
  4. At the top it will say US Address
  5. Click the down arrow on the right
  6. This will give the option to enter an APO

Be sure for the question in 'My Info" on your resident state, you have selected your home of record state.

It’s not “home of record.” It’s the state you pay taxes to on your LES/W-2. They are not the same thing.

You have to file the state return for your "domicile".

Generally, your domicile is the state where you were living when you were inducted into the military; this is what is called the "home of record" (unless you took steps later to change it).

You will continue to report that state as your resident state and pay taxes to it (if there is a state return for that state and if, as active duty military, such income is taxable in that state) - since we don't know which state, we can't say anything further.

Presumably, your withholding would be for that state - but taxpayers all the time have taxes withheld for a state other than the state in which they are a resident - sometime correctly, sometime not.

As DMarkM1 said above, you should indicate your state of residence in the Personal Info/My Info section so that TurboTax were prepare the correct resident state return, and if you had taxes withheld in another state, then you will have to file a nonresident return for that other state so that you recover that withholding (unless you owe tax in that state also, perhaps by working a nonmilitary job in that state).
