The purchase of a personal residence, not used as a rental or in a business, does not effect your filing for a state tax return if you are active military with a HOR of Florida.

Florida does not have a personal income tax so no return is filed for Florida.

Only if you are using the home in Virginia as a rental or in a business with income or expenses for the rental or business would you have to file a non-resident VA state tax return.

DoninGa's response assumes that you were AD/MIL the entire tax year; every single day.
