As a same-sex couple, what filing status should we choose on our state return?

The 2015 Supreme Court decision requires all legally-married same-sex couples to file as married – either jointly or separately – on their state tax returns.

Keep in mind that in many states, married couples (same-sex or otherwise) must stick with the same filing status they used on their federal return. When you get to your state return, we'll present you with the available options.
