Question
I am the live-in landlord of an up-down duplex. I had some repiping done for the kitchen in my own unit on the second floor. To do the job, the plumber had to open the wall in the renter's kitchen on the first floor.
I paid $300 for the drywaller to restore the wall, plus about $100 to repaint the whole small kitchen. Since the work was part of a project on my personal unit, are any of the expenses deductible?
I can see how the drywall might not be deductible, but the renter does benefit from the new paint job.
