What did you sell? If business or rental property, what you may be seeing is not just the capital gain, but the recaptured depreciation also. Remember, in the year you sell a business asset, all prior depreciation is recaptured and taxed.

we can't see your return.

you would need to look at forms 8949 and schedule D to identify where the difference is. you may have to pay your fees first.
