Solved

I bought a new home last year 2016 and moved from my old home in may 2016. I want to rent or sell, but have not been able to do so. Can I claim loss on my 2nd home if not rented or sold for the remaining year 2016.

If your home was available for rent during 2016, but you just weren't able to find a tenant, you can deduct expenses, including depreciation, for the period that the property was available for rent.
