Hi - I am renting my house for the first time. In order to rent it, I moved to another house where I pay rent. Can I deduct the rent I am paying as an operatin expense?

No. Rent paid for the home in which you live is a personal expense and is not tax deductible.

What you can deduct are the actual expenses associated with the rental income property: mortgage interest, taxes, hazard insurance, repairs and maintenance, utilities that you (not the tenant) paid, and depreciation on the house itself.
