Can my rent be deducted as a business expense? I rent a room in a family home where I live, and I work from home.

No.  You can take a deduction for a home office if you use some portion of the space you rent is used regularly and exclusively for work.  It must also be the principle place for your business.  You are unlikely to have such a space if you only rent a room, which definitionally at least some of which is for personal use.
