Moving expenses/Job transfer. Sold house in 2025, purchased a new house in 2026. Turbo is asking for purchase price of new home. Do I claim it this year?

Based on Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines for a job transfer, you should not claim the purchase price of the new home in 2025. Instead, you claim the eligible closing costs related to the purchase on your 2026 tax return (filed in early 2027), which is the year the purchase occurred and the expenses were paid.

    • For 2025 Taxes: You will likely report the sale of your home (to claim selling expenses like real estate commissions or legal fees) but not the purchase of the new one.
    • For 2026 Taxes: You will fill out Form T1-M to claim the purchase-related costs (legal fees, land transfer taxes) from the 2026 purchase
