If you are entering a rental property improvement as an asset to be depreciated, then you would first choose Rental Real Estate Property.
Then, if the improvement is a component of the home (such as a roof, a room addition, a heat pump) you would choose Residential Rental Real Estate. This will depreciate the asset over the same recovery period as the property itself.
If the improvement is something like a swimming pool, a fence, or a paved parking area, then it would be considered a Land Improvement.
