Why aren't full expenses being deducted for rental period when I stopped rental of a unit and converted it to personal use?

As of September 1,2020, one of my rental units was converted back into personal use.  My records for expenses only include what I spent while it was a rental unit.  I spent more than I earned, so the unit should be showing a loss for the year.  However, Turbotax changed every amount I put in for expenses to lesser amounts for each item - it seems Turbotax is automatically pro-rating all the expenses I entered and dividing it between when it was a rental and when it went back to personal use.  So it is showing $0 income after all is said and done instead of  a negative -$3433 .  It doesn't give me the option of changing that.  The only way I can deduct all the expenses I put into the rental unit before converting to personal use is if I don't put down that I converted it during the year.  Then it lets me take all the expenses I am entitled to.  But then I don't have a record with the IRS for when I converted it.  Is there any way to not only put down that I converted to personal use on September 1, and yet still be able to have Turbotax accept everything I put in as expenses without adjusting the figures?  Thank you!

This is a data entry error because you did not read the entire screen ... your personal use days are ZERO since you did not use the rental personally WHILE it was a rental.   Fix this one thing and enter only the rental portion of the expenses and you will like the result much better...  rental to personal.jpgrental to personal 2.jpg

And remember to take the asset out of service when that portion of the program is operational.

Thank you so much!  I entered in 243 days for the rental, and didn't put anything in for the personal days, and it gave me the full amount it was supposed to.

How do I take the asset out of service?  I thought by putting in that I converted it after 243 days of rental this year, that would be taking the rental out of service.

I really appreciate your help!

You will have to wait until the program is updated, but you will check a box in Assets/Depreciation which is in the Rental Properties and Royalties section (see screenshots).

Just resumed my tax return and followed your guidance.  When I put in the date of ending the rental, the tax jumped from owing $94 to owing $278.  I had figured and input everything, including depreciation, up to that date.  So it should not have changed anything.  What did it calculate that threw the numbers off and how do I fix it?

Thanks so much!!!!

Unfortunately, I have no idea since I cannot see your screen nor do I have access to all of the specifics of your tax situation as it relates yo your rental.

However, what might have happened is the depreciation could have been calculated for an entire year and was ultimately reduced when you entered a lower number of rental days and then entered the balance as personal use days.
