Where should the expenses associated with a stand alone garage (storage building) purchased in 2016 that is used by several rental properties to store tools be entered?

You can allocate across all the rentals but it would be simpler to list the asset under the one of the rentals.

This will skew the individual data for that rental, but it doesn't matter much, as all expense items for all of the rentals funnel to one line on the schedule E (line 23e).
