Where exactly do I enter utility expenses I had on my rental home while it was vacant for three months?

You would enter this as a utility expense when going through the Schedule E interview of TurboTax.

  • Login to your TurboTax online account
  • Click Take me to my return or pick up where I left off
  • In the search box (located in the upper right hand corner), type Schedule E
  • Click the jump to Schedule E link that appears in the search results
  • This will take you to the Income from Rentals or Royalty Property You Own screen. Click yes
  • Continue with the onscreen instructions until you reach the Rental and Royalty Summary screen. Click edit next to an existing rental entry or click Add new
  • Continue with the onscreen instructions until you reach How Do You Want to Enter Your Rental Expenses? screen.  If you click Walk me through everything, it will walk you through every expense available.
Continue until you reach the Any Utility Expenses? screen. Enter any utility expenses here.
